There are multiple health benefits of male circumcision, with a decreased risk of HIV infection being significant.

Benefits of male circumcision

Circumcision is the most performed surgical procedure in the world and has been performed for thousands of years.

The medical benefits of male circumcision are well documented, and include:

  • Improved hygiene
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Reduced risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s)
  • Reduced risk of both penile and prostate cancer

The risk of adverse events resulting from circumcision is 0.5% and is in regard to virtually all minor events that are immediately and easily treatable with complete resolution.

Benefits of male circumcision for women

Circumcision protects the female partner(s) from infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) causing cervical cancer, bacterial vaginosis and sexually transmitted infections.
